Am I missing something here?
Okay, so it's a state-run company from UAE. Is it just me, or does it seem that they probably wouldn't do anything wrong, after recent world history? Isn't it obvious to everyone at this point that if terrorists were to get through our ports and we had any reason to believe that the company were to blame, then we would bomb the living daylights out of UAE?

The following has been added after the submission of a reader comment:
We must also remember that this is a company; it may be state-run, but it is a company nonetheless, and not much more likely than any other company to do something 'evil.' While this company may have been started by the UAE government, it's almost certainly an entity in itself, even if it must submit to a degree of government regulation. Furthermore, I highly doubt that this company will have complete and utter control over our ports. The federal government will still regulate port activity, I am sure. One must understand the difference between government and business, and the company, while handling business transactions and so on in the ports, will not be taking on a regulatory capacity. That would be nonsensical.

Something that I didn't know about the bird flu, but it makes sense
Apparently, if the disease gains the ability to jump to humans, which would vastly increase the rate at which it spreads, and which I had thought was feared as a potential trigger for a pandemic, the disease would then lose a great deal of its volatility.
I had known, on the other hand, that if the avian flu were to spread to the US, it likely would not be as bad here as it has been elsewhere. The US has a much better healthcare system, and the people here are much more knowledgeable than people in Third World countries about preventative measures and the need to seek treatment--not to mention that the US generally has much better, much more accessible medical treatment.

Hmmm...
I think that this man is awful, and I would be loath to defend him, but what the heck happened to freedom of speech? I do think that it was an awful thing to say, but who did he hurt by saying it, especially since no one would be idiotic enough to change their mind about such a subject based on his opinions? It might not be true, but he should still be allowed to say it.

I mean, it would be preferrable that he didn't, but if he wants to kill himself slowly and painfully because he thinks he's making a point, then who's gonna stop him?

That would be sad...
Can you imagine deciding to pull yourself out of the Olympic Games? And if that were to happen, just imagine how the athletes who weren't selected to go would feel...

Bird flu: still spreading and evolving
It's now reached Africa. And does anyone else foresee problems with people going hungry because of the loss of poultry in poorer places, like some in Africa?

Again, people get a bit extreme
Can you really blame the guy for being interested in getting mail from across the ocean because he dropped a bottle in the water? But then, why does he get to call it a 'good deed'? What kind of sense does that make? I mean, technically, it is littering...

Maybe suicide and death are somewhat strong subjects for young children, but just how graphic could the depictions of these subjects have been? It's an opera! Opera generally does not involve great special effects.
And calling the poor woman a satanist? That's stupid. She's a teacher in her first year, and she made a mistake.

A fellow blogger, and unfortunately, an ignorant jerk
A blog that not only makes fun of the Pope, but does so under the pretense of being written by the Pope.

Anyone out there who finds this as disgusting as I do, please send this misguided, childish person your thoughts.

I'm the childish one? I'm the ignorant one? Yes, ABSOLUTELY, I DO find this blog, lampooning the leader of my faith AND EVERYTHING HE DOES, offensive. The humor is not gentle. It's assinine. I absolutely am not kidding. Sense of humor? The idiot who runs this blog is the one with no sense of humor.
The man is the symbol of my faith, the leader of millions of people worldwide. He helps to guide us in how to live our lives, he teaches us about the ways of the being who created the world that we live in, the only true route to a fulfilling life and a happy afterlife.
But more importantly, the blog pokes fun at traditions that the Catholic Church considers to be important, significant, and not the kind of things that are to be debated or made fun of. (For example, the golden-colored vestments worn on Christmas, WHICH IN NO WAY RESEMBLE A TWINKIE).
And don't jump on me about censorship. Yes, I flagged the site for objectionable content. I will not deny that this person is allowed to say whatever he or she pleases, but I also am allowed to object to it. The first ammendment runs both ways. Furthermore, the flag function is there for a reason. These blogs are a service provided by Google, and, to a degree, they represent the company that provides for them. Thus, that company has the right to decide not to provide for them. I find the content of the blog to be highly objectionable and offensive, and its existence I think speaks poorly for modern society.

I don't usually side with the people that put up these kinds of arguments, but in this case, I honestly think that they're right. I certainly would not call myself a right-wing Christian extremist, and I think NBC is going a bit too far.
